Instructions:

Observe your perception through the waterfall of C. Escher!

This is mainly about the difference between seeing and perceiving.

Explain the perception that happens to you in the face of the image.

Possible solution:

At first I see a rather idiosyncratic building that makes no sense at first sight and does not remind me of buildings I know. It seems to be a cultural mix, a fantasyland. I isolate individual parts. I see a water channel. Then I see that the water drives a wheel, then I notice that something is wrong - not being TRUE - can be. Now I have a phenomenon. I have to take a closer look.

It is not an optical illusion, because I see that something can be wrong. Then I can see clear "faults" in the picture. Individual columns connect places that are not on top of each other. The image is not correct - or vice versa, it correctly depicts what cannot exist.

I perceive something that I know cannot be true. It irritates (or pertubates) me. So I have to compensate for my disorder. I do not do this by examining my perception - as I do in the face of hallucinations - but by examining the object I perceive. That means I trust my senses, but not the object, which here is an image of an object (note 5).
